Have a Heart This February

February 6th, 2012 by Alison Risso

February is National Heart Month, so instead of giving your Valentine a box of candy or a dinner out, consider doing a heart healthy fundraiser together!  You’ll get to do an exciting activity together while making money for those whose hearts need help.

You can use Razoo to set up a fundraiser where you:

  • Join a local fun run, bikerace or dance marathon
  • Grab a pedometer and get pledges to walk a million steps
  • Create low-fat heart-healthy snacks for a bake sale
  • Take over your local high-school football bleachers and challenge others to climb the equivalent of a mile up.

Or consider taking part in one of these great national fundraisers:

Go Red for Women’s mission is to educate everyone that heart disease is the #1 killer of women.  Their “Go Red Day” encourages folks to wear red and spread the word.  They’re also doing a facebook promotion where you can get a group of your friends together all in red, record a video or take photos and submit them on the Wear red day Challenge tab on our Facebook page (facebook.com/gored) from through Feb. 23. The earlier you get them in, the more time you’ll have to promote your submission and get more votes.

Kids can Jumprope for Heart to learn heart-healthy habits and the importance of giving back, all while having fun and fundraising.  Lots of schools are getting in on the action, but you can do your own promotion too.

The CDC is also running its Million Hearts information campaign to prevent one million heart attacks and strokes over the next 4 years.  Check them out to make sure you or a loved one isn’t at risk for cardiovascular disease.  Other heart disease tips can be found on the Health and Human Services site.

You can also check out several existing fundraisers “with a heart” on Razoo.

Have a great February!
